Allergies

A food allergy occurs when your immune system responds to a protein in specific food. This triggers an allergic reaction, which can range from mild to severe. It can affect your breathing, heart, skin or gut.

Food allergies can develop at any age but are most common in children younger than 5 years old. Some allergies are outgrown. The most common food allergies are:

  • Cow’s milk
  • Soy
  • Wheat
  • Egg
  • Peanuts
  • Seafood

Our dietitians can teach you what is safe to eat for your allergy, ensure you are still meeting your nutritional intake despite your restrictions and teach you to label read to assist with managing your allergy at home and also whilst out of your normal environment.
