High Cholesterol

High cholesterol or hyperlipideaia means having too much cholesterol (a fatty, waxy substance) in your blood. While cholesterol is essential for building cells and producing hormones, excessive levels can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health issues.

Your diet plays a major role in determining cholesterol levels. The foods you eat can either raise or lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides—all of which influence heart disease risk.

How our dietitians can help with high cholesterol:

Lowering cholesterol is not just about foods we should reduce, it’s also about the foods we need to eat more of.

  • We will ask you lots of questions about your current food choices and provide recommendations of what to cut down on and ideas to replace this instead. We will also recommend foods you should increase like good fats and fibers. This is individualised based on what you already eat.
  • We will try to make these recommendations enjoyable and sustainable.
  • Help you identify hidden sources of unhealthy fats that may be increasing your cholesterol and how to read these on labels on products.
  • We can provide you with practical ideas, meals plans, snacks lists, recipes and more to make change easier.
  • Teach you and your family heart-friendly cooking methods and ideas on choices for eating out.
  • Most importantly we can provide support needed to make change. We know change can be hard and at times inconvenient. We can monitor your progress and make adjustments and recommendations as needed as well as provide the support you need to stay on track.
