Diverticular Disease
Many Australians have diverticular disease but are unaware that they have the condition. Diverticular Disease is when diverticula (small pockets) form in the wall of the gastrointestinal track, usually the large bowel. When these pockets become inflamed or infected, it is known as diverticulitis.
Symptoms may include :
- Diarrhoea and constipation
- Abdominal pain and bloating
- Bleeding
These symptoms can be mild, lasting a few days or severe requiring hospital admission. Sometimes we may not even have symptoms and its diagnosed when we are having a test for something else.
How our dietitians help with Diverticular Disease:
- Help you manage your symptoms during a flare-up using a modified fibre approach if appropriate.
- Support you to implement dietary strategies to reduce the risk of future flare-ups.
