Low FODMAP Diet
FODMAPs stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. These are all small carbohydrates in our foods that are not digested very well. They stay in our stomach and attract water, then reach the large intestine where they are fermented by our gut microbes. This produces gas.
The extra water and gas in our gut can cause the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) including:
- Bloating
- Pain
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Wind
One in seven adults suffers from (IBS) so luckily most (75%) can find relief by reducing the FODMAPs in the diet
